
Spirits are already running high as San José State University Spartan Men’s Golf Team prepares to compete in the 54-hole collegiate tournament, as well as hosts for the event since 1947. According to John Kennaday, head coach for Spartan Men’s Golf program, the championship is already attracting several noted collegiate teams from across the country.
Echoing the success of last years event, top collegiate players, coaches, business leaders and spectators are marking their calendars now for the “WI” College-Am slated for
Fri. April 15, for the championship held April 16-17.
This highly competitive tournament demands that players bring their A-game with them to Pasatiempo’s MacKenzie-designed course, ranked amongst “the best” by GolfWeek, Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Zagat Survey.
Friday’s Practice Round & College-Am present an excellent opportunity for stand-out collegiate players to prepare for the championship rounds, and for amateur golfers enjoy the chance to tee it up with talented collegiate players. Over the years several noted players have met the challenge and claimed title to “The Western” including Bobby Clampett, Peter Jacobson, Mark Lye, Johnny Miller, Arron Oberholser, Mark O’Meara and Ken Venturi. History notes also reveal that the tournament has also attracted other proven players since its inception: Al Geiberger, John Lotz, Roger Maltbie, Bob Rosburg, Dave Stockton, Tom Watson, and Tiger Woods.
